Why was Satan interested in Moses’ body?
Deuteronomy 34:1-8 describes the death of Moses. The Lord allowed him to see the land of Canaan in the distance, from atop Mount Nebo. Then he died. And we are specifically told that “6 He (God) buried him in the valley in the land of Moab facing Beth-peor, and no one to this day knows where his grave is.” Jude 1:9 (HCSB) Yet Michael the archangel, when he was disputing with the Devil in a debate about Moses’ body, did not dare bring an abusive condemnation against him but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”
Although Satan cannot reanimate life, he has the power, if permitted to use it, to animate flesh with his own energy so long as he remains attached and within a deceased body. He must move quickly. Once the molecular structure of any body breaks down beyond his ability to cycle the molecules he cannot make use of it. So as with all things of importance, an time frame exists with a very short window for him to use.
When Michael was disputing with Satan over Moses body, it typified something never witnessed by humankind, but was witnessed by the holy angels. That was the halted theft of Christ’s remains by Satan when he was entombed awaiting his own reanimation or resurrection by our Creator. Michael’s ancient dispute over Moses remains was to foreshadow Satan’s future attempt to enter Christ’s deceased body and use his power to make it appear as though Christ had returned, but with a different message than the one previously taught. The same intention he had if he’d been successful in entering Moses corpse.
The theft of Moses corpse was halted by Archangel Michael but since Michael became Christ and was awaiting his reanimation in the tomb, an holy warrior much like Michael was sent to halt the theft of Christ’s deceased body. The holy warrior caused an earthquake and ousted Satan from the tomb. Matthew 28:1-10 (HCSB) Resurrection Morning 28 After the Sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to view the tomb. 2 Suddenly there was a violent earthquake, because an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and approached the tomb. He rolled back the stone and was sitting on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his robe was as white as snow. 4 The guards were so shaken from fear of him that they became like dead men.
Later, after his ascension and the split in Christ’s energy, Michael took the lead once again in halting Satan’s progress and his maniacal plans that were intended to use holy family member remains in other diabolical operations to fool the elect if possible.
